Millvina Dean Infant

Elizabeth Gladys Millvina Dean is probably the best known of the Titanic survivors. Born the 2nd February 1912, she preferred to be known as Millvina and had the distinction of being both the youngest and last survivor. Millvina was just nine weeks old when the Titanic sank and she was also the last survivor when she died aged 97. I was fortunate to become friends with Millvina and I will always remember with happiness the times we spent together.

Millvina was a third class passenger on the Titanic with her mother Georgette, her father Bertram and her brother Vere. They were heading to Kansas in the United States to start a new life but sadly her father, Bertram, died in the disaster.

Millvina Dean Memorial Plaque

Millvina died on the 31st May 2009 which was also happened to be the 98th anniversary of Titanic's launch. I attended her remembrance service and was also present when her ashes were scattered at the dock in Southampton from which the Titanic had departed 97 years earlier. I miss Millvina very much and I hope that she rests in peace reunited with the father that she never knew.
